The unfortunate end of the Style Plus Rocket Footwear program comes on the heals (pun intended) of a recent announcement, by Russian officials, that gasoline powered shoes may be available within the next year.

Roman Kunikov says his gasoline-powered boots are a step forward in marching footwear — nearly 3 yards per stride. Kunikov, a professors at the Ufa Aviation Technical University, designed the self propelled boots which were recently tested in the city of Ufa, 750 miles southeast of Moscow.

gas powered marching shoes“Our test showed that wearers can achieve speeds of up to 25 mph,” Kunikov said in a recent telephone interview.

The boots incorporate one-foot pistons which are strapped along the wearer’s calf. These pistons fire downward after the wearer takes a step. The piston pushes a metal plate away from the the shoe causing the wearer to leap into the air.

The footwear works in perfect rhythm with the wearer’s step, making these modern marvels ideal for marching and maneuvering applications.

Kunikov told WDN that his invention, which weighs only two pounds per device, is powered by ordinary gasoline. According to Kunikov, there have been no accidents so far. He said that his research team will continue to refine and tweak the product, which is expected to hit the market soon.
